
Ludlow’s stones largely date from when life first emerged from the sea onto land. The story of how they have come to be used in the buildings of the town reveals the area’s frontier position.

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2010. The orchestra has seen over 9,000 days of ukulele action, expanding from gigs in London pubs to touring the world – from the Village Hall to the Royal Albert Hall.

The Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir was formed in 1935 by Ivor E Sims and in its early days concentrated primarily on competitions and local concerts. In 1937 the choir achieved its first success at the Royal National Eisteddfod in Machynlleth, going on to win at the ‘National’ on six further occasions.

Following their sell-out appearance at Hereford Three Choirs Festival 2009, internationally renowned tenor James Oxley and accompanist Caroline Dowdle make their first appearance in the Ludlow Festival.

William Boughton formed the English String Orchestra in 1980. It is well known for its recordings, which are often played on Radio 3 and Classic FM.
From 1985 until 1999 Yehudi Menuhin was its principal guest conductor and with him the orchestra played all over Europe, the USA and Canada.

Brothers Jonathan and Tom perform in instrumental combinations which cover the entire keyboard spectrum including piano duet, piano and organ and harmonium and piano. They have performed at all the major UK concert halls, as well as at venues throughout Europe, South America and the Far East.
